Grey Treepie, Dendrocitta formosae, is also known as Himalayan Treepie is a close relative to crows. They are mainly seen in the foothills of Himalayas, some parts of China and Taiwan.
Even though I have seen Grey Treepie quite a few times, this was the first time I have taken photograph of them. During our trip GIBT 2018 – CS we saw quite a few of them.
Black-headed Jay is a bird found in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bhutan.
Durig our GIBT 2018 – CS trip, we found the bird in Sattal. Only one bird was observed during the whole trip. The bird which we say had a broken (or deformed) upper bill.
Himalayan Tahr (Thar) is a near threatened species of mammals according to the IUCN Red List. As the name suggests they can only be found in the Himalayas.
During the GIBT 2018 – CS trip, we found quite a good number of them at Chopta. For all of us Himalayan Tahr was a new species.
Koklass Pheasant’s name came from its territorial calls. It is one of the few pheasants that can fly for miles. Another interesting fact about Koklass Pheasant is that during winter they feed on vegetation and during the summer they become highly insectivorous.
Another species of birds in our target list during GIBT 2017 – CS, we saw them a few times in Chopta.
Himalayan Monal, the national bird of Nepal and state bird of Uttarkhand is found in the Himalayas. The males and females differ in their plumage sometimes difficult for the common man to say they belongs to the same species.
Himalayan Monal was a dream bird for me for years. I have personally tried to see these birds a few times and all I could manage was seeing the tail of a male Himalayan Monal bird from Nepal.
Well, that was a story now. In GIBT 2018 – CS we found around 50 of them if not more. We were also able to photograph them comparatively easily.
